In February I… ...Finished Ferdinand! I started him way back in October before Open Studios. If you don't know Ferdinand from your childhood, he is the gentle bull who loved to smell the flowers in Munro Leaf's classic children's book. I depicted him surrounded by mock orange blossoms and common blue butterflies. Prints and cards are available (soon to be online) and the original needs to be flattened and framed before I MAYBE part with it. I also experimented with new art toys. Specifically Noodler's Ink & fountain pen, Holbein Irodori Antique watercolors & Twinrocker handmade watercolor paper. The fox sketch in the gallery below is an example of all three. The circular blackbird painting on the left is also Twinrocker paper. I love it. The paper (I toned it with tea of course) is very heavyweight (does not curl) and just drinks up ink/watercolor in a very smooth & even way. I'm sold for life! Also, the Irodori watercolors are fantastic-- the colors are unique and the pigment is super rich and almost opaque like gouache. Additionally, I had my first show of the year at Treasure Island Flea and guess what? It was my most successful time out there yet! Most importantly, I had a great time. ALSO (depicted below) I got my San Francisco street artist license! This means I can sell in designated spots in plazas and on the sidewalk. Look out tourists, I'm coming for you! |
