Some of my favorite fellow artists are very prolific (Joshua Coffy) and are good about doing spurts of daily painting for a month or so, or in Josh's case, even a year. I'd like to give it a shot… and while my schedule is such that it doesn't allow for free time on every day, I like the idea for several reasons:
Hopefully I can stay on top of this. I probably won't blog each one, but I will post them on my Tumblr!
- The chance to be loose and free, and try out new ideas and techniques without worrying about the end result. Most of you know that I returned to painting only a year ago. In the past year, I've only been able to work on art here and there, mostly towards the end of the year. I have been so focused on building a portfolio and business that I have had little to no time for 'strictly fun' painting.
- I have so many ideas… sketchbooks, lists, margins and even an iPhone full of visions, but the reality is that if I try to execute each one perfectly I'll never get around to them. This gives me a chance to test them out.
- I still need lots of practice! I am kind of slow and could learn a thing or two.
- Instant gratification. Some of my more grandiose plans take foreverrrrr…. and the fear of messing them up can keep me from starting.
Hopefully I can stay on top of this. I probably won't blog each one, but I will post them on my Tumblr!
